In the annals of film history, there is one film that is widely considered to be the benchmark for summer blockbusters. Upon its release in 1975, it was heralded as one of the most frightening movies ever made, and in the years since it has been imitated but never duplicated.
Steven Spielberg’s Jaws is an example of a movie that does everything right. It’s a masterfully crafted piece of work that has elements of suspense, horror, action, and comedy. It is rightfully considered to be one of the best films of all time. It showed us clearly a threat in the ocean as we never had seen it.
Sadly, however, Jaws is guilty of one thing: it has resulted in dozens upon dozens of “shark attacks man” movies, 90% of which are pure abominations. Thus, for your viewing displeasure, goodpuplife is proud to present our list of the worst shark attack movies and scenes ever made.
Shark Attack 3: Megalodon
This gem is perhaps the granddaddy of terrible shark films. Over the years, it has gained considerable appreciation in the online community for its absolutely absurd dialogue and terrible special effects. You only need to watch the above video to get a taste of what this little beauty has to offer. Here’s a hint: it ain’t pretty.
Swamp Shark
In recent years, a common theme in shark movies is taking the creatures out of their natural habitat and placing them in locations where you generally wouldn’t expect to see them. A sort of “fish out of water” theme, you might say. In this cinematic classic, a shark gets loose in Louisiana’s Atchafalaya Basin and begins feasting on teenagers who are partying at the annual Gator Fest. Yep. Nothing else really needs to be said.
Jersey Shore Shark Attack
This one is practically the definition of a guilty pleasure. Not only do you get to see poorly animated sharks attacking hapless “guidos and guidettes” – always an enjoyable sight – you also get to see Vinny from MTV’s Jersey Shore AND Joey Fatone, formerly of N*SYNC, getting devoured by said sharks. If that’s not worth a watch, we don’t know what is!
Sand Sharks
Here’s a flick that dares to suggest a terrifying prospect: sharks living OUTSIDE of the water and adapting to sand. Picture it – you’re relaxing on a beach when all of a sudden you see a fin working its way towards you, cutting a path through the golden sand surrounding you. Sound ridiculous? Watch the above trailer and you’ll see. This one is notable for having some truly atrocious dialogue and for starring Brooke Hogan, the daughter of pro wrestling “legend” Hulk Hogan.

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus
This is one of those scenes where words simply won’t do it justice. However, we’ll give it a try: a plane is flying through the air. The “mega shark” mentioned in the film’s title leaps out of the sea. The shark takes down the plane. Movies simply don’t get any better than this.
Sharktopus
Sometimes, a shark by itself just doesn’t cut the mustard. By combining sharks with other creatures of the deep, filmmakers have created an entirely new subgenre of the shark attack genre of films. Sharktopus is probably the best example of this, as not only does it combine a shark and an octopus into one remorseless killing machine, it also features its own completely awesome theme song. Seriously, watch that trailer and try not to tap your feet.
Deep Blue Sea
Most people are probably familiar with this one, but in a list like this, it absolutely has to be mentioned. Deep Blue Sea is, for a shark movie, actually quite good. Nowhere near the quality of Jaws, of course, but it’s a fun little flick with some great action and scares. The above clip is the most famous scene in the film, and it’s considered to be one of the most shocking, unexpected deaths in film history. The CGI is laughable, and the entire premise of the scene (and the movie itself) is absurd, but that shouldn’t take away from how awesome it is.
