Peru's Amazon Basin: Manu Biosphere Reserve

Boating and Nature Walks in the Amazon Rainforest

Join Call of the Wild along with our naturalist guide to explore Manu and witness for yourself the spectacular beauty and diversity of this World Heritage Site. This trip is a superb add-on to the Machu Picchu itinerary blending the cultural trekking experience in the Andes with the bio-diversity of the Amazon Rainforest, or it can be a amazing stand alone trip.

The Manu Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage Site in the southwestern region of the Amazon Basin, encompasses approximately 5 million acres ranging from high alpine grasslands and cloud forest on the eastern slopes of the Andes to lowland rainforest.

Peru's national park is home to 200 species of mammals, including 13 different species of monkeys, the endangered giant otter, the caiman and the jaguar. It also boasts the largest concentration of birdlife in the world with an estimated 925 species.

This is one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world, not to mention being home to several ethnic groups such as the Matchiguengas, Yine and others, which often have very little contact with westerners.

This journey begins high in the Andes Mountains at Cusco (11,000 ft). We'll fly from Cusco to Boca Manu, where we will begin our wildlife expedition.

We will be staying in exotic jungle lodges, which feature a bar, great food, hot showers, a library and hammocks for lounging and listening to sounds of the wild. We will fly from Boca Manu back to Cusco, where we will explore for a day before returning back to the U.S.
