Q:
|
Let's get to the most important subject first. How's the food?
|
|
| |
A:
|
Out on the trail you'll feast on fresh-baked coffee
cake, pesto fettucini, spicy Thai vegetable soup, or Indian currieseven
fresh green saladsand other delectable dishes from Carole
Latimer's cookbook, Wilderness Cuisine.
You'll wake up in the morning to freshly brewed gourmet coffee,
and nibble on warm brownies for dessert at the end of the day.
We focus on cooking with fresh local ingredients
when available, such as grilled tuna with papaya salsa in Hawaii,
or fresh-caught salmon in Alaska. Our meals feature high-quality
ingredients with fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables, as well as
home-canned jams from the Latimer family garden and orchard in the
California gold country.
We feel that good food adds to the fun and enjoyment
of Call of the Wild trips. For more mouth-watering information,
go to Our Cuisine.

Q:
|
How hard is a trip to do?
|
|
| |
A:
|
Our trips run the gamut from easy-going hikes, with
lodging on tropical beaches, to challenging backpacking and camps
at high altitudes. Our trips include women of many ages and different
levels of fitness and outdoors experience. You can find the trip
that's right for you.
If you're wondering whether a certain trip suits
you, or if you want other information about a trip, e-mail
us. Take a look at How Strenuous A Trip?
for information on how we rate the level of challenge in our trips.

Q:

I haven't done much camping or other outdoors activities before.
Well, actually I've done none. Does that matter?
|
|
| |
A:

Call of the Wild welcomes beginners
on trips suited to their levels. Call of the Wild got its start with
the idea of introducing women to the enjoyment and satisfaction of
wilderness adventure trips. After more than 20 years, we're still
at it! Contact us for advice
on the trip that's best for you, and come to a Pre-Trip
Class. |

Q:
|
Help! What do I bring? And how do I fit it all into my pack?
|
|
| |
A:
|
When we receive your deposit, we'll send you a list
of clothing, toiletries, and other essentials to bring with you.
We provide most of the camping equipment for the trip. You provide
clothing, of course, and personal gear such as a sleeping bag and
pad, and a daypack or backpack. (You can rent these things from
us.)
In our pre-trip classes, we'll show you the proper
kind of clothing and gear to bring. If you're going backpacking,
we'll demonstrate how tomiraculouslyfit it all into
your backpack. If you can't attend the class, contact
us and request the class booklet. For more information, go to
Pre-Trip Classes.
